In 1981 he won National Film Award for Best Actor for Ardh Satya, this is very good art film by Om Puri.

In 1982 he won National Film Award for Best Actor for his art film Arohan.

In 1984 he won two awards National Film Award for Best Actorfor Ardh Satya and Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Best Actor for Ardh Satya

In 1990 he won Padmashri award for his excellence work in Indian cinema this is the India's fourth highest civilian award.

In 1998 Om Puri won Brussels International Film Festival Best Actor for My Son the Fanatic for his excellent work in this film and in the same year he won Grand Prix Special des Amériques at Montréal World Film Festival for exceptional contribution to the cinematographic art.

In 2004 Om Puri won Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to The British Film Industry.

In 2009 he won Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his whole work in the Indian Cinema.

He is also nominated for many other awards.
