Birthplace of Kalpana Chawla she was born in Model Town Karnal in a Punjabi family. She was inspired by the by J. R. D. Tata a pioneering Indian pilot and industrialist. Date of birth of Kalpana Chawla she was born on March 17, 1962

She was born in Punjabi Family, parents of Kalpana Chawla Banarasi Lal Chawla and Sanjyothi are very simple people. She had two elder sisters (Sunita & Deepa) and a brother (Sanjay). Husband of Kalpana Chawla in 1963 she met with Jean-Pierre Harrison, a flying instructor and aviation writer and married to him. She becomes the United States citizen in 1990.

Education of Kalpana Chawla

Kalpana Chawla completed her schooling from Tagore Public School, Karnal. In 1982 she earned her B.E. degree in aeronautical engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.

In 1982 she moved to the United States and obtained a M.S. degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas , Arlington (1984). She also got a second M.S. degree in 1986 and a Ph.D. degree in aerospace engineering in 1988 from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

NASA career of Kalpana Chawla

Kalpana Chawla was joined the NASA astronaut corps in March 1995 and she got selected for her first flight in 1998 as part of the six astronaut crew that flew the Space Shuttle Columbia flight STS-87. She travelled over 10.4 million miles in 252 orbits of the earth, logging more than 360 hours in space.

She selected for her second flight as part of the crew of STS-107 in 2000 but because of some scheduling conflicts and technical problems mission was delayed. On January 16, 2003 she finally returned to space aboard Columbia on the ill-fated STS-107 mission and this was her last mission.

Death of Kalpana Chawla

Kalpana Chawla died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster which occurred on February 1, 2003, when the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated over Texas during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere, with the loss of all seven crew members. Her last visit to India was during the 1991–1992 New Year holiday.

Though Kalpana Chawla is not more in this world but she will remain in the heart of many people as an inspiration. Lots of colleges, hostels and other memorials are made on the name of Kalpana Chawla to honor her.
