Lalu Yadav - A Sinking Ship in the Sea of Bihar Assembly Elections 2010

Lalu and his misrule has spelled doom for him in the coming Bihar Assembly Election 2010.

Lalu Prasad Yadav the self styled, maverick former chief minister of Bihar is going to test the waters again in the assembly elections slated to be in October november 2010.

When he took oath as a chief minister of the most backward state people saw a ray of faith in him since he was a grassroot level political worker well aware of the problems of the state but little did they know that he too would succumb to the greed and corruption that characterises most politicians in India. He talked big and had everyone in splits with his one liners. People wanted him to focus on development too along with his rustic charm but he resorted only to cheap political gimmicks and appeasement policies. Instead of taking care of the education of all the girls of the state he concentrated only on his daughters; packing them off to elite institutions on quotas and then marrying them off lavishly declaring with a put on gullibility that the marriage expenses were taken care of with the money accrued from selling milk! Can anybody believe in this kind of stupid talk. And just a few days back he introduced his 20 year old son to the media declaring him as his successor; a man of 20 years addicted to luxurious lifestyle and with no grassroot level political experience but a progeny of course of a famous political figure. What an example of dynastic politics pervading the Indian political scene! One more example of his big talk is the introduction of charwaha vidyalayas. What a pity that an idea which could have been a success in eradicating illiteracy from the lowest societal strata was just floated and then ignored.

Infrastructure was never in place in Bihar and nor was the then chief minister, Lalu Yadav interested. Roads turned to pits and no construction took place in rural areas. Electricity eluded the villages all through his regime; after all he had to justify his lantern symbol! There were loots, kidnappings, crime occurring at almost every hour in these very areas. He openly supported criminals like Shahabuddin who had perpetrated terror in Siwan of Bihar. Educational facilities remained dormant and no welfare schemes were ever put into effect. The only thing Lalu did all the 15 years was savoring the luxury he bought with his corrupt rule and devising stratagems to divide society on caste and religion lines to his own benefits. This is the reason no big corporate house ever got interested in investing in Bihar.Bihar became synonymous with crime, kidnaps and backwardness. People fled to other cities in droves in search of jobs.

This year people will decide whether they would want to live in the peaceful ambience of the present time or go back to the dark age of Lalu. Had Lalu been even a bit considerate of his fellowmen it would have been a different scenario. But today as Bihar is showing signs of revival under Nitish Kumar no one not even Lalu's kin are ready to take a ride on a sinking ship like him.
