So the Metro Railway project has been proposed to solve the existing problem and to ease the transportation traffic.

Mumbai metro rail has been designed in such a way to provide air-conditioned coaches, lifts and escalators in the stations, automatic fare collection system and increase the passenger security systems. The main advantage of this system is that it connects the eastern and western part and even the central part of the state. The metro rails halves the travelling time compared to suborn railways and reduces 50-70% as compared to roads. For example this project reduces the journey time from 90 minutes to 21 minutes, between Versova and Ghatkopar. The transportation fares are also greatly reduced compared to other .Hence it becomes economical for all class of people. For example the fare structures are Rs.6 up to 3 kms, Rs.8 between 3 to 8 kms, Rs.10 beyond 8 Kms. The fares are fixed and are revised at 11% for every 4 years.

Features of Mumbai metro rail system

The station consists of three levels Road level, Concourse Level and Platform level. The stations contain lifts and elevators which will be helpful for the physically challenged people. These are also used to connect the Concourse Level which is divided into paid and non paid level. The non paid level consists of ticket counters, gates for entry/ exit, ATMs, toilets etc. The Paid area consists of the people who have tickets and people who are waiting for trains on the platform. The metro rails system are planned to operate for 18.5 hours every day from 5:30 AM till midnight. The frequency of the trains would be 3.5 minutes between each train. Automatic fare collecting system has been planned for the metro rail project. The Ultra modern rail coach with all facilities has been proposed which makes the journey more reliable, comfortable and safer than road based system. Thus the metro rail system not only increases the ease of transportation it also increases the economic wealth of our country.
