List of Candidates and profiles for 2011 MCA Elections Mumbai

As mentioned earlier, the most prestigious post for the MCA election is that of the President. This post had been occupied by Sharad Pawar for a decade. Sharad Pawar is not eligible to contest the election due to a shift in his permanent residency status from Mumbai to Baramati.

The one to take his place will be heading the richest State association affiliated to the BCCI. Competing for this post is Vilasrao Deshmukh, presently the Union Minister for science and technology and the national cricket team's ex-captain Dilip Vengsarkar. Vilasrao Deshmukh has been the vice-President of MCA since the last 2 years. He represents the Mazgaon Cricket Club in the MCA but for the election he is contesting as an independent candidate. Dilip Vengsarkar has been harping on the need to have a cricketer as head of the MCA rather than one from the political field. In fact, he hopes to be the very first cricketer to be the head of the MCA after the rule by politicians Sharad Pawar & Manohar Joshi. However, many feel that he will have a tough time getting votes as Sharad Pawar and the Bal Mahaddalkar panel members are batting for Vilasrao Deshmukh.

The election for Vice-President of MCA is an equally absorbing one. There are 5 candidates in contention for 2 posts:

4. Shripad Halbe: He represents the Oriental Cricket Club in the MCA. A practicing Company Secretary & former Director of Bank of India, he is also a member of Finance Committee of BCCI.
