Netball competition is scheduled to be held at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex. The sports complex is one of the venues for the Commonwealth Games 2010 being hosted by India. Netball despite not being that popular a game in India, it sure is going to rise above its dormant state and touch the skies of popularity in the coming years with a world class stadium built strictly for Netball. It is but obvious that a country with such population will definitely have serious takers for Netball as the years go by. Thyagaraj Sports Complex has been named after the 18th Century Indian poet, Thyagaraj.

The central arena of the complex for Netball has been made of maple wood, and granite and recycled PVC for other flooring work. The stadium also has a roof made of steel.

Events to be held at Thyagaraj Sports Complex

The complex is strictly for Netball competitions at the Delhi Commonwealth Games. The capacity of the stadium is 4,494. The complex has three courts, one for the competition matches while two courts to be used for practice by the competitors. Netball competitions are going to be held from 4 October 2010 to 14 October 2010. The spectators will have to enter the stadium from gate number 4. The venue is 15 kilometres from Khel Gram- the Games Village.

Green Initiatives

Thyagaraj Sports Complex has been built with the environment in mind. The stadium is built in a north-south orientation which is good for the environment also a prominent practice in Feng Shui. Rain water harvesting is one of the top priorities of the builders while constructing the complex. The venue also has a method to trap solar power worth one mega watt. Thermal insulation on the roof and walls with hollow concrete blocks have been used. Various methods of conserving water have been the highlight of the stadium: recycled water for flushing and horticulture, dual knob cisterns and vapour absorption machines.

Nearest Metro Stations:
INA Market Metro Station is the nearest and the only metro station.
The distance from the INA Market Metro Station to gate number 4 of the venue is 800 metres.

By Own Vehicle
Spectators coming in their own vehicles will have to park their vehicles and walk to the venue:
-Kendriya Vidyalaya School, Vikas Sadan to venue- 100 metres
-Sarvodaya Vidyalaya to Venue- 150 metres

Spectators who avail the shuttle services can alight at Thyagaraj Park and walk for 200 metres.
