Assam: Haven of Heavenly Herbs

Assam is the fertile land, where hundreds of herbs grow naturally, and without much effort to plant them. People of Assam use them in making typical Assamese dishes and as home remedies in treating lots of ailments .

Knowledge of using these herbs in medicinal purpose are passed from one generation to the next and it is part of the cumulative knowledge of the people of Assam.

As Assam is the abode of many tribes and communities each and every tribe has different cuisine, and they use the herbs differently. And each of them have their way to cure their ailments by using different herbs.

They have certain value as adding flavour to a dish and/or as medicines .

Lack of space, and lack of knowledge are playing important hurdles to save the unique gift of nature in Assam . But people still use them and get immensely benifitted . And these herbs,as part of organic medicines and food has immense potential to get marketed at the present scenario.
