Chail The Beautiful Hill Station in Himachal

Chail The Beautiful Hill Station in Himachal

History of Chail

Chail is a small but beautiful Hill station in Himachal Pradesh with great historic significance. Chail was once the summer capital of the Princely state Patiala. The history behind the foundation of Chail town is very interesting. In the year 1891, the dashing and handome Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala incurred the wrath of Lord Kitchener for his dalliance with his daughter. Lord Kitchener was Commander-in-Chief that time and the dashing Maharaja fell in love with his daughter.

The Maharaja was banned from entring into Shimla the summer capital. This move by the Commander provoked the Maharaja to such an extent that the enraged Maharaja decided to build a new and better summer capital than Shimla at the same height and altitude for himself. He looked and searched for such place and finally decided to make Chail his capital.

Chail was a small village closer to Shimla and was a 'slice of heaven'. Chail was surrounded by lush green and dense forests with a panoramic, exquisite and commanding view of the snow-capped Himalayas. Maharaja, rebuilt the village and transformed it into his capital by building a wonderful and amazing palace for himself. The same palce today is run as a luxury star hotel. When Himachal came into being, the palace was taken over by the Himachal Pradesh Development Corporation. HPTDC now maintains and runs this palace as a luxury resort combining nostalgia with modern-day conveniences.

Chail is known for its scenic beauty and serene environment. The view of the valleys and snow capped Shivalik range is mesmerising and adding to the beauty are the beautiful orchards and sylvan pine and Deodars.

Maharaja Bhupinder Singh was very fond of Cricket and he made the world's highest cricket field in Chail. The highest cricket ground in Chail is very well maintained and scrupulously kept. Playing cricket at the highest altitude is real excitement and fun. Above all the picturesque view of the surroundings, with tall forest trees all around the cricket field will enchant and enthrall you. The Maharaja made it a point that Chail has everything that Shimla doesn't have. He also made sure that Chail town matched Shimla in every respect.

On a clear day when the skies are clear, Chail offers a delightful, clear, magnificent and splendid view of the valley. The valley view is wonderful and at the same time you can experience the calmness and serenity of the place. The view of river Sutlej is really an out-of-this-world experience. Watching the river winding its way between the mountains is a treat to the eyes. Another breathtaking view is of Kasauli and Shimla and Kufri. The view from Chail at night is splendid and beautiful. The distant lights of the surroundings create unique magic pattern on the horizon.
