Barog once just a stopover to Shimla has now become a tourist destination.
Barog is situated at an altitude of 1680 meters on Shimla Kalka National Highway on a mountain. Barog is located at a distance of 62kms from Chandigarh and 55kms form Shimla.
Barog is named after the Engineer- In-charge of the construction of Shimla-Kalka railway line (Barog Tunnel) who died tragically in Barog.
Barog offers picturesque views of Solan valley. The place is covered with pine trees. At nights the lights of Solan valley looks like stars and an extension of the sky. The view of the curving railway track down below in the valley is very fascinating.
Barog is the only hill station in India with a registered camping site.
Railway station here at Barog is the most attractive railway stations on Shimla Kalka railway line built up in Scottish style. The station is 3kms away from the Barog.
Dagshai was a British Cantonment at one time. Dagshai is small town surrounded by pine trees and has an old church. Dagshai is about 7kms from Barog.
Solan is about 10kms from Barog.The places to visit in Solan are Mohan Park, Children Park, Jawahar Park, State Library, Mini Zoo, Lower and Upper Bazaar. There are many other tourist attractions in Solan.
Jatoli about 7kms from Barog is famous for Great Shiva Temple. Jatoli is a small village situated on the Solan Rajgarh road.

Barog is blessed with a pleasant climate the year round which makes Barog all time favourite tourist spot.
Heavy woollens in winter and light woollens or cotton clothes for summer are recommended.
How to reach
Barog is easily accessible by road as well as by train. There are many busses plying on this route local as well as long route. The nearest station is Barog itself. The nearest airport is Jubbarhatti which is 65kms from Barog.
