Tourist Spot Nahan, Sirmaur

Nahan is one of the famous places of Himalchal. The place is situated in an isolated area in the Shivalik hills.



Nahan is licated in an isolated area in the Shivalik hills. Nahan is about 100kms form Rajgarh and 45kms from Ponta Sahib. The place is situated at an altitude of 935meters.Nahan is spread in an area of about 2830 sq. kms. The population of the town is around 4,60,000.


Nahan is vary famous for picturesque views and well known for its clean and dust free streets. The main hubs of activities of Nahan is Chaugan, Khadar ka Bagh abd Vikram Bagh.


The attractions of Nahan include Rani Tal where a big temple and army tank of previous rulers can be seen. Cranes and ducks can be seen enjoying and playing in the water of the Rani Tal. Also there is a very beautiful and charming garden adjoining Rani Tal. Boutiques, gift shops, turpine factory and many local temples are the points of attraction of the place.


The town was founded as the capital by Raja Karan Parkash in the year 1621.The name of the place comes from Nahar which means Lion. It is believed that a Saint lived here with his lion and the name of the place is taken by his Nahar(lion).

Dhaula Kuan is a very beautiful place. Dhaula Kuan is about 20kms from Nahan.
Renuka is place where one of the famous lakes of Himachal is situated. The name of the lake is also Renuka. Renuka is about 40kms from Nahan.
Giri Nagar is also a famous place. Giri Nagar is about 25kms from Nahan.
Ponta Sahib is famous for Buru Sahib Gurudwara as well as for its beaty. Ponta Sahib is about 45kms from Nahan.
Rajgarh is the place worth visiting. The place is about 100kms from Nahan.
Trilokpur is famous for Bala Sundri Temple. The place is at a distance of about 25kms from Nahan.
Suketi Fossil Park is about 20kms from Nahan and a very beautiful place.

How to reach

By Train
The surrounding railway stations are Ambala, Kalka and Chandigarh. The place is connected with these railway stations on regular basis.
By Road
The place can be approached form Dehradun through Ponta Sahib, Ambala through Kala-Abm and Shimla through Solan. There are regular busses from Shimla, Manali, Delhi and Haridwar.
By Air
The nearest airport is at Chandigarh and second one at Jabbarhatti in Shimla.


The climate of the area is pleasant. There may be snow in winters.


The temperature of the area lies between 38 degree Celsius and 05 degree Celsius.


Woollens for winter and cotton for summer are recommended.


The people here can speak and understand Hindi, Punjabi, English and Pahari languages.
