Pauri – One of the finest tourist spot of Uttarakhand

Pauri provides a picturesque view of the snow covered mountains of the Himalayan region like Swarga Rohina, Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kharch Kund Gauri parvat and Neelkanth etc. Pauri is situated at an altituse of about 1816 meters above the sea level.
Puri is situated in the slopes towards the north of Kandoliay hills. Pauri is also the head quarter of Puari Garhwal Division of the state. Total area of the place is about 5 square kilometers.

Other places to visit

Kaundaliya is situated at a small distance of 2kms from Pauri. The famous places here are the temple of Kaundaliya Devta, Indoor stadium and a beautiful park. The area is covered with thick forests. The main attraction of the place is the view of Sun set from here and a refreshing walk amidest the dense forest of Pines and Oaks.

Ransi is famous for various sports and games. The place is located at a high altitude of 2135 meters and is about 2kms from Pauri. The place is also a famous picnic spot for the locals as well as the tourists.

Lakshmi Narayan Temple
Pauri is also famous for temples. There is temple of Goddess Lakshmi and God Narayan here at Pauri which is located very near to the main bus stand of the place. People came here to worship the God and Goddess.

Khirsu is one of the famous picnic spot in Pauri. People visit here to enjoy the beauty of the place from there busy schedules.

Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev Temple
The temple was built in the 8th century and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is around 3kms from Pauri. One can enjoy the beautiful mountains and fascinating valleys of Himalayas and Srinagar valley respectively. Almost every part of the Pauri region is visible form the temple.

The place is situated at a high altitude of 3110 meters about 100kms from Pauri by road and afterwards one has to reach Doodhatoli on foot. The place is one of the best trekking sites. The area is covered with thick forests and offers fascinating views of the near by areas.

Jwalpa Devi Temple
The temple is about 35kms from Pauri on the road towards Kotdwar. Pilgrims from every part of the country visit this temple to get blessing of Jwalpa Devi.

Adwani is located at a distance of 16kms from Pauri. The place is a famous tourist destination in the region. The place is covered with dense forests and provides a beautiful view of the surroundings. Forest Rest House is also situated here.

Climate at Pauri

The climate of the region is pleasant in summers and cold it winters. There is a very high possibility of heavy rainfall during the monsoons.

Best time to visit

Pauri can be visited at any time during the year but the best time to visit Pauri is summer as the climate of the region is pleasant.


Cotton or light woolen clothes for summer and heavy woolens for winters are recommended.

By Air
The nearest airport is Jolly Grant which is about 158kms form Pauri.
By Train
The nearest rail head is at Kotdwar which is about 106kms form here.
By Road
Almost every part of the state is well connected with roads and so is Puari. Pauri is well connected to all major towns of Uttarakhand like Rishikesh, Kotdwar and Dehradun etc.
