Bhandardara Rainy Season

Bhandardara is enchanting and charming hill station in the lap of Sahyadri Hills. It is located at 750 metres above sea level and comes under Ahmednagar district in the state of Maharashtra. Places of Tourist Interest at Bhandardara Wilson Dam

Bhandardara dam is considered as one of the oldest dams of Asia. It was constructed almost a century back in 1910 by the Britishers on Pravara River to ensure availability of water for drinking and agricultural purposes in Ahmednagar district.

The construction of this dam has resulted in the creation of the famous Arthur Lake over a period of time. There is a beautiful swimming pool and lush green garden at the bottom of the Bhandardara Wilson Dam.

The garden is home to a number of species of beautiful birds. But the major attraction of the place is Umbrella Falls,which is formed during the rainy season due to increase in the water level of the dam.

Radha Falls
It is at a distance of about 11 Km from the Bhandardara Wilson dam. The sight of Pravara River falls into a canyon is spectacular and charismatic sight. This is one of the leading waterfalls of India and the water is utilized for the production of hydroelectricity.

Amriteshwar Temple

The ancient temple was built in 11th century and is surrounded by mountains all around and is devoted to Lord Shiva. At a little distance is the famous Ratnagad Fort another place of tourist interest of the region.

Agasthya Rishi Ashram

This serene and epic ashram is on the banks of Pravara river. The ashram is believed to be the dwelling of Agasti Rishi and finds mention in Ramayana as Lord Ram, Lakshman and Sita had visited the ashram during their stay at Panchavati.

How to Reach Bhandardara

By Train: The nearest railway station is Igatpuri which is about 35 km from Bhandardara.

By Road: Bhandardara is well connected by road as there are numerous Maharastra state road transport bus services from all major cities from the state of Maharashtra.

By Air: The nearest airport is Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport, of Mumbai located at a distance of about 185 Km from Bhandardara.
