There are nearly 250+ temples are located in the Kolhapur but mostly fmous temple in Kolhapur is Shree Mahalakshimi Temple. Mahalakshimi is well known by Ambbai and Karvirnivasani. One of the anient temple is the Shree Mahalakshimi Temple. Noeth side of the India is the Kashi located. Kashi has very importane but this temple has got this importance. Kolhapur is also called as South Kashi. Temple is two-storeyed. Temple's width is 200 feets in the eas-west and 150 feets length in south-north. Height of the Shree Mahalakshimi Temple is the 4 feets and base of this idol is 3 feets. Idol is the four handled means it hass four hands.
In the centre of the Kolhapur city , Khasbag maidan is located. Maidan means ground. It is one of the biggest ground of the wrestling. In this ground there are nearly 2000 people sit and they also see the wrestling. Famous ground of the wrestling in Maharashtra.
From Kolhapur, at 3 miles apart Kalamba village is located. Where one lake was built. This lake was building started in the March 1881 and completed in the 1883. Total spending of money was 186000 Rs. This lake beautiful in nature. Total length of this lake is 3700 feets.
One of the beautiful lake is the Rankala. Total length of this lake is 2.5 miles. In the middle of this Rankala lake, it is very deep nearly 35 feets.
On ths west side of the Rankala lake, Shalini Palace is located. This building ws built in the 1931 to 1934. To built this building ther was buit in black stone and Italian marble rich decorative doors. This palace is surrounded by the one garden. This palace has got nae of ths Prinves by Shrimant Shalini Raje.
Town hall built in the 1856. Total expenses were 80 thousands. In front of the Town Hall one fountain is located. In Town hall there are many paintings on the wall. Those paintings were drawn by A. Rahman, Baburao Pentar, Ravindra Pentar, Dalvi etc.
Kolhapur Sugar Mill
In Kolhapur District , ther are main crop is the sugar cane. Near the Kolhapur , there is 4000 Acers sugar cane are grown by farmers. kolhapur Sugar mill was established in 1932. This factory provides liabray hall, hospital and other facility.
Panhala fort is well konown by Panhal Hill Station. Height from the sea level is nearly 2727 feets. This fort wa built by Raja Bhoj II. This fort is largest for t in the Deccan. This fort is comes under hill fort typ fort. This fort was used in the 1178-1947.
6 miles apart from the Gadhinglaj. Height from the sea level of this fort is 2600 feets. This is smallest fort. In 1844, this fort was got by British.
In 1178-1209, King Bhoj II built 15 forts. This fort is one of hem fort. Height of this fort from the sea level is 2500 feets. from east of this fort, nearly 1 mile Gaganbavda city is situated.
From Kolhapur this fort was 55 mile apart. Total length of this fort is 4750 feets east to west and width is 2240 feets in the norht to south. From this fort you also see ths deep forest.
