Railway Budget 2012 was entirely different from last years Railway budget which was labelled as a Railway budget only for West Bengal in spite of the fact that the Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi is from the same regional party of West Bengal Trinmul Congress and was sworn in when Mamata Banerjee resigned and became Chief Minister of West Bengal.

To combat the huge rush in Harbour line, Mumbai, now there will be 12 rakes suburban trains.

Elevated corridor is announced from Churchgate to Virar and in Western and Central suburb ie from Churchgate to Virar and CST to Kalyan there will be air conditioned train service.

Terminal station is being planned at Navi Mumbai and Panvel is most like to be a terminal station.

There will be completed conversion of all three suburban networks in Mumbai from direct current to alternate current.

Connectivity between eastern and western corridors of Mumbai city will be made effective.
