    Rajinikanth had a very tough time in his childhood as he lost his mother at the age of five. He did his schooling at Acharya Patasala followed by Vivekananda Balak Sangh, a unit of Ramakrisna Mission. Later during 1973 he studied at Madras Film Institute.

    Before entering into the film industry, he worked at various places as a carpenter, coolie and then he joined as a bus conductor for Bangalore Transport Corporation where he used to fancy the travellers with his style and mannerisms of issuing tickets and so on. In 1973 his friend Raj Bahadur helped him to join the Madras Film Institute where he completed the course in acting. It was during this time he was introduced into the Tamil Film Industry by Director Balachander through his film 'Apoorva Raagangal' (1975), who gave him the screen name as 'Rajinikanth'. He was then played as an anti-hero and it was Director Muthuraman who gave him a positive role in 'Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri'. He played as a hero in the film 'Bairavi'(1978) and later on at 'Mullum Malarum.

    The Tamil Film 'Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai' during 1979 gave him a big turning point in his career where from then he was noted by the audience for his stylized manners. The film 'Billa' was his blockbuster which was remaked in Bollywood Movie as 'Don'. Rajinikanth was noted for his action based comedy on the films like 'Nallavanukku Nallavan', 'Pokkiri Raja', 'Murattu Kaalai', 'Velaikaran', 'Dharmathin Thalaivan' and so on. His 100th movie is 'Sri Raghavendra' where he played a saintly role as 'Raghavendra Swami'.

Rajinikanth has acted more than 150 movies and his latestfilm on 'Enthiran' which was again direced by Shankar which is the costliest Indian film which is said to have grossed around Rs.250 crore worldwide. His upcoming film named 'Sultan the Warrior' is being directed by Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya which is an animated movie where he is starring as an animated version of himself where he lend his voice to the animated character.

    Rajinikanth is a strong believer of spirituality right from his early age. His striking balance in his professional career and that of his spiritual side was amazing and that made him to become more and more humble and he always try to understand himself and that of the purpose of life. He owns a Marriage Hall in Chennai named 'Raghavendra Marriage Hall' where he converted one of his banquet hall to a charitable trust to the help the poor.
