Early life of Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gaandhi was born on 2nd October in the year 1869 in Porbandar. In his chidhood, the story of HarishChandra who was the ancient king who is realized for his Truthness. Gandhiji was so much impressed by this tale as HarishChandra was so truthful. So, he also decided to speak only truth. Hence, he had also acted as HarishChandra role in his school days so many times. When he was 13 year old, he got to married to Kasturbai Makhanji (Kasturba) who was 14 year old in the year 1883. In the year 1888 in September month he flied to London to study.

Satyagraha of Mahatma Gandhi


Satyagraha means "Devotion to truth". First time, Satyagraha was started in the year 1906 to defend the new law. This happened for about seven years. Meantime there were about thousands of indians who had been arrested which includes Gandhiji also.

Struggle to Independence


The first world war has started in the year 1918 in April. This time he had started the "Ahimsa" that is "Non-Violence". Later there was also "Salt Satyagraha". This Salt Satyagraha was introduced in the year 1930 in March against the salt tax. This Salt Satyagraha happened by marching from Ahmedabad to Dandi. He had marched about 388 Kms which was from 12th March 1930 to 6th April 1930. Then there was a second world war in the year 1939. Overcoming all these struggles our Mahatma Gandhi the Father of Nation acheived the Independence on 15th August in the year 1947.

Principles of Mahatma Gandhi


1) Truth : Gandhiji had learnt to speak only truth from his own mistakes and with his experience. He believed that "Truth is God".
2) Nonviolence : Mahatma was the first person to apply Nonviolence that is Ahimsa. He had stated that "There are many causes that I am prepared to die for but no causes that I am prepared to kill for".
