All Tamil festivals are celebrated in accordance with the celestial events. The nine days of Navaratri is dedicated to nine planets, which are believed to be controlling all human actions on earth. Our saints assigned a particular grain or pulse for each planet. These pulses are cooked and presented as Ninedhyam to god to get blessings of that planet and given out as prasadam on each day.
  • SUN- the sun god is pleased with the sundal cooked from wheat.
  • MOON- the moon god is pleased with rice grain; as we cannot sundal from rice, payasam is presented and given as prasadam.
