Churulia, Birthplace of Kaji Najrul Islam

Churulia, a place near Asansol in Bardhaman district of West Bengal. It is the birth place of famous poet Kaji Najrul Islam. His manuscripts as well as several belonging of him are well preserved by Najrul Academy. Every year the Academy organize a weeklong festival in which several cultural personalities from both Bengals attend. This is the place where his wife Pramila Devi is resting in peace.




Location: It is around 15 kilometers from Asansol on south bank of river Ajay.


Transportation: There are two minibus service, one from Asansol and the other from Chittaranjan. Now Indian Railway is trying to retrieve an old railway service through which poet's friends used to travel to meet him.
