Observatory Hill in Darjeeling


Darjeeling is a famous place for sightseeeing and it remains incomplete without a tour to the Observatory Hill. The vibrant scenery of sunrise over the Observatory Hill attracts tourist always. This famous tourist place is always busy with devotees for the Mahakal Temple on the Observatory Hill. With this temple many other attractions are waiting their visitors everyday.

Observatory Hill of DarjeelingShowing the real beauty of Darjeeling Observatory hill is situated at the Mall road near Chowrasta square.  Chowrasta is the connection between Nehru Road and Bhanubhakta Sarani. The strong religious faith of boyh Hindus and Budhists is closely related to this Hill.

The Mahakal temple and the snow clad peaks of the Mount Kanchenjunga is the other attractions present here for tourists. Various colors of flags is decorated here. Tourists get their best moments observing the view of mountains. Dorje Lama was the caretaker of the Mahakal temple in 1800s.
Structures of other Hindu Gods like Duga, Hanumaan, Kali also present here.

This Observatory Hill provides scenery with the Hills of Sikkim and the Himalayan mountain. An old British creation, the Windamere Hotel is near the Observatory Hill. Before 1939 this hotel was served as a boarding house for English tea planters. This holy place is always busy with worshippers from several parts of the country and the world.

The other important places arond Observatory Hill includes Birch Hill, or Jawahar Parbat, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and many gigantic hotels. The view of mountains from this Hill is clear during October to November. The total area of Observatory Hill provides the superb natural splendour of Darjeeling and it is very nearer to many other tourist places.
