Every major and minor gadget manufacturers tried their hands on the tablet tally and quite obviously, we are not complaining about it. Some lived up to users’ expectations while some others led to disappointment. Today we will be talking about the much hyped Aakash Tablet. Arguably, the world’s cheapest tablet!

One of its kinds Aakash is the first series of Android powered tablet computers brought into the market by UK based company Datawind and developed by Indian manufacturers Quad. Aakash Tablet was first unveiled during October 2011 and later endorsed by the Indian Ministry of Human-Resource & Development. The primary aim of “Aakash" is to make tablets easily available to the mass. With all the goodness of a 7-inch touch sensitive screen ,ARM 11 processor and 256MB RAM as the baseline configuration. It runs Android 2.2 Froyo! Aakash is commercially christened UbiSlate 7+ and is available at an unbelievably low price of 60$.

However its successor Aakash 2 is a considerable improvement in terms of specs, performance and features. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and packs a 3000 mAh li-po battery unit under the hood. Aakash 2 was unveiled on 11th November ,2012. It is commercially sold under the name of UbiSlate 7Ci and priced at an all-time low of Rs.2263(MHRD) further aided for students at Rs 1130 only. The two other variants UbiSlate7C1 tab and Ubislate7C+ is priced at Rs 4,199 and Rs 5,199 respectively.

Aakash tabs' customer review has been decent to average and in few occasions below standard. Few blame lack of after sales support while others curse poor parts quality.DataWind has acknowledged the fact that they have not been able to meet the growing demand of Aakash but they are resolving the after sales service issue with high priority!
