Histroy Related to Jwalaji Temple in Kangra:

It is believed that half burnt tongue of Goddess Sati fell in this region of Kangra district and since then it has been burning as a blue flame. As such the place came to be known as Jwalamukhi and temple came to be known as Jwalaji. Since then Jwalaji temple comes under one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in India.

One important fact related to Jwalaji temple is that, in 16th century the great Mughal Emperor, Akbar, walked bare footed to pay obeisance to the Goddess in Jwalaji temple. Akbar placed a 'Chhatra' as a tribute to Goddess in Jwalaji temple, which still exists and the metal of which it is made is still a mystery for the scientists.

In the 19th century, the famous Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab gilded the Jwalaji temple dome with pure gold.
