Beginning time of Industries in Himachal Pradesh

The process of Industrialization in state started during the eighties and gained momentum during the decade. At present, there are 173 medium and large scale industries and about 27,000 small scale industries with a total investment of Rs. 2,550 crores in the state. The annual turn over of the industrial sector is approximately Rs. 4,000 crores and these industries provide employment to about 1.40 lakh persons. The government has done away with the mechanisms of industrial projects approval and review authority and the enterprisers are no longer to obtain the approval of the government for setting up of units in medium and large scale sector. The government has also introduced a concept of single man clearance by nominating a senior officer of the directorate as nodal officer for projects in medium and large sector for getting clearance from various agencies. During the current year, nine projects with an investment of Rs. 204.12 crores in medium and large scale sector were granted registration, from these industries about 1270 person will be provided employment. District industries centers have been functioning in all the districts of the Pradesh.

The objective of DIC programme is provide all facilities, service and support required by village and small enterprising under single roof. During the year 1998-99, up to December, 1998, 579 small scale industrial units were registered on permanent basis and employment opportunities were provide to 3,150 persons. In order to provide infrastructural facilities to the enterprises- (1) Industrial area of Parwanoo, Barotiwala, Baddi, Paonta Sahib, Mehtapur, Shashmi, Nagrot Bagwan, Bilaspur, Reckong Peo, Sansarpur Terrace, electronic complex at Chambaghat (Solan), Mandi, Nerchowk, Parel, Bambla, Hamirpur, Shoghi, Chamba, Amb, Tahliwala and Kala Amb and (2) industrial estates at Solan, Dharampur, Kangra, Jawali Maighal, Siagllo and Dehragopipur were established. In addition, more industrial areas/estates are being developed in the Pradesh.

Prime Minister Rojgar Yojna for providing assistance to educated unemployed youths for self employment has been launched all over the state. During the current year a target of providing assistance to 3,500 educated unemployed youths has been kept up to December, 1998 2,948 applications were recommended to banks and 1,101 cases were actually disbursed loan amounting to Rs. 670.00 lakh and 766 cases were actually disbursed loan amounting to Rs. 450.00 lakh. The remaining cases are under process.
The department of industries is organizing various type of programme for the perspective enterprising under enterprisers to development. In addition, short-term quick exposure source of a week's duration have been designed to provide package information to the desirous enterprising and to acquaint them with the necessary procedures and other requirements for setting up industrial units. During the year, 1998-99 up to December, 1998, three industrial awareness programmes were organized in the state in which 82 persons were trained.
