Women Welfare in Himachal

Various schemes are being implemented for the welfare of women in the Himachal Pradesh. The major schemes are as under:
(a) State homes: Foe destitute woman and wayward girls/women states home at Chamba, Mandi, Shimla, Kangra, Bilaspur and Kalpa are being run by the government. Besides, one state home at Nahan is being run through the Indian Council of child Welfare (ICCW). The inmates of these homes are provided free boarding and lodging facilities and training in craft, tailoring and embroidery etc. For the rehabilitations of such women after leaving state homes financial assistance up to Rs. 7,000 per women is also provided. A provision of Rs. 1.12 lakh has been kept under this scheme during 2009.

(b) Working Women hostels: With a view to provide residential accommodation to the working in urban areas, the department constructed 13 working women hostels. These hostels were constructed by the voluntary organization with the help of grant-in-aid @ 75 percent from the government of India @ 25 percent from the state government.

(c) Marriage grant to destitute girls: Under this programme, marriage grant up to Rs. 3.500 per beneficiary is being given to the parents/guardians of the girls or to the girl herself provided their annual income does not exceed Rs. 9,500. During 2009, a provision of Rs. 10.05 lakh ahs been kept for this purpose and an amount of Rs. 7.89 lakh ahs been spent up to December, 2009 and about 183 beneficiaries were covered.

(d) Assistance for self-employment to women: Under this programme, assistance is given @ Rs. 5,500 to those women whose annual income does not exceed Rs. 9,500 and possess knowledge of any particular trades or have got training /diploma in that particular trade. During 2009 Rs. 9.76 lakh has been kept under this scheme and Rs. 3.23 lakh has been spent for this purpose and 63 women were benefited up to December, 2009.

(e) Women Development Corporation: With a view to provide financial assistance to women for various trade purpose, a women development corporation ahs been set up in the Himachal Pradesh. During 2009, a sun of Rs. 33.00 lakh ahs been kept.
