The Legend

According to Hindu Mythology Chamunda Devi Temple is related with two devils named Chanda and Munda of the notorious demon king known as Shumbh Nishumbh. Chanda and Munda With their evil mind tried to harass the goddess Ambika. This notoriety of the two demons resulted in battle between the gods and demons. Chamunda Devi was assigned the mission to eliminate the demons Chanda and Munda. It is believed that Chamunda emerged as Chandika from an eyebrow of goddess Ambika. Chandika as a result completed her mission of destroying the two demons and she presented the heads of Chanda and Munda in front of Ambika., The Goddess Ambika was very happy with the act of Chamunda Devi and in reward she named the city as Chamunda. Thereafter the temple of Chamunda Devi is worshipped with that elegance and faith by all.

Nearest Narrow Gauage station is Chamunda Mandir Station (5Km) and Broad Guage Station is Pathankot (90 Km).

Number of buses ply between Delhi to Chamunda Dharamshala and Kangra. Chamunda Devi is well connected by road from all parts of the Himachal and Punjab.

Travelers can also hire private taxis from Dharamsala or Kangra to reach the temple.
