Goddess Durga is the mother of the universe. Durga believed to be power behind creation , preservation and has been mentioned in many scriptures like Yajurveda,Vajasaneji, Samhita, Jailtareya Brahman.

Sanskrit meaning of Durga is fort or a place which is difficult to overrun. Other meaning of Durga is 'Durgationashini' which literally translates into the one who eliminates suffer things. All hindus from our country as well as world believe that godess Durga protects her devotes from the evil of the world.

Many Forms Of Durga
Many incarnations of Durga are Kali, Bhagvati, Bhavani, Gauri, Kandolini, Lalita, Rajeshwari etc. Duraga incarnated as the united power of all divine beings who offered her requried wepons and physical attributes to kill the demon 'Mahishasur'

Durga has many arms
Durga is depicted as having eight or ten hands. Hands represent the eight quadrants means eight or ten direction in Hinduism.

Durga's vechicle is lions that represent power and deermination.Godess Durga is riding the lions symbolize her mastry over all these qualities. This present or suggests to devotes that one has to posse all these qualties to get over the demon of ego.
