Maharashtra Government Cabinet and State Ministers

This article gives a complete list of the New Government of Maharashtra Ministers in the Prithviraj Chavan Ministry.

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan announced the new team of Maharashtra's Council of Ministers with 40 members, 20 each from the Congress and the NCP parties. Out of the 40, 30 are Cabinet Ministers and 10 are State Ministers.

2010 Maharashtra Cabinet Ministers in Prithiviraj Chavan Ministry

1. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan: Since the last 15 years, the CM retains the Urban Development Department portfolio. So CM Prithviraj Chavan keeps his hands on this all-important portfolio. This department is in charge of the use of land and governance of cities in Maharashtra.

2. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar: Nephew of Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar will hold the portfolios of both finance and power. He will thus be in charge of financing of various projects and schemes in Maharastra as well as power-related issues.

3. R.R. Patil: R.R. Patil retains the Home Department portfolio, probably due to his efficient methods in creating a better disciplined police force and controlling corruption to a certain extent. The Home Department is concerned with the law and order in Maharashtra.

4. Balasaheb Thorat: The Revenue Department portfolio sees a change of hands, with Balasaheb Thorat replacing Narayan Rane to take over the charge of land development, allocation, reservation, etc.

5. Sunil Tatkare: The water resources portfolio has been held by Ajit Pawar since the last 10-11 years and his aide Sunil Tatkare has now been given this portfolio [excluding Krishna Valley Irrigation Corporation]. He will thus be managing matters related to irrigation and other water-related issues.

6. Chhagan Bhujbal: Former Deputy CM Chhagan Bhujbal retains his portfolio of Public Works Department [excluding Public Undertakings) and Tourism, thereby getting control on the department which is in charge of road infrastructure projects in Maharashtra.

7. Rajendra Dadra: He had earlier served as Minister of Industries and will now take charge of the school education portfolio. It will be a huge responsibility, in the light of the recent headaches created by the Govt's policies on admissions, syllabus, etc. The portfolio covers issues related to both schools of the State Board as well as junior colleges.

8. Harshvardhan Patil: He retains his portfolio of Cooperation Department and Parliamentary Affairs. This department deals with matters related to cooperatives, such as those of banks, dairies, sugar, etc.

9. Suresh Shetty: Public Health Department, & Family Welfare and Protocol

10. Sanjay Deotale: Environment and Cultural Affairs

11. Rajesth Tope: Higher and Technical Education

12. Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil: Agriculture and Marketing

13. Narayan Rane: He has been shunted out of the Revenue Department and given the less-important portfolio of Industries, Ports, Employment & Self-employment

14. Patangrao Kadam: Forest, Rehabilitation & Relief Works, Earthquake Rehabilitation.

15. Madhukarrao Chavan: Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development. Madhukarrao Chavan is a former Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and one of the new faces in the Cabinet.

16. Varsha Gaikwad: Women & Child Development. Varsha Gaikwad was earlier the Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education and has been promoted to Cabinet Minister.

17. Naseem Khan: Textiles, Minorities Development and Aukaf.

18. Shivajirao Shivaramji Moghe: Social Justice, Welfare of Nomadic, De-Notified Tribes & Other Backward Classes and De-addiction Activities

19. Jayant Rajaram Patil: Rural Development

20. Ganesh Ramchandra Naik: State Excise and Non-conventional Energy

21. Lakshmanrao Kondiba Dhobale: Water Supply and Sanitation

22. Anil Vasantrao Deshmukh: Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection

23. Jaydatt Sonajirao Kshirsagar: Public Works [public undertakings]

24. Manohar Rajusingh Naik: Food & Drugs Administration

25. Ramraje Pratapsinh Naik-Nimbalkar: Water Resources of Krishna Valley Irrigation Corporation

27. Babanrao Bhikaji Pachpute: Tribal Development

28. Dr. Nitin Kashinath Raut: Employment Guarantee Scheme and Water Conservation

29. Madhukar Deorao Chavan: Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries

30. Padmakar Vijaysing Valvi: Sports & Youth Welfare

2010 Ministers of State in Prithviraj Chavan's Ministry

1. Satej Patil: Home Department (Urban and Rural), Rural Development, Food & Drugs Adm. Satej Patil, who was a success in the recent Kolhapur Civic Polls, has been given charge of these 3 portfolios. He is the son of Tripura Governor D.Y.Patil.

2. Rajendra Mulak: Finance, Energy, Water Resources, Excise, Planning, Parliamentary Affairs. By getting these portfolios, Rajendra Mulak became the only Congress MLC to get a berth in the Ministry.

3. Rajendra Gavit: Tribal Development, Labour, Command Area Development and Horticulture. Rajendra Gavit, a Thane MLA, is a tribal and it is expected that with the tribal development portfolio in his hands, a lot will be done for the tribals of Maharashtra.

4. Dattatray Pandurang Sawant: Medical, Higher and Technical Education, Special Assistance and Renewable Energy. Dattatray Pandurang Sawant is an associate of previous CM Ashok Chavan.

5. Prof. Faujia Tahsin Khan: General Administration, Information & Public Relations, Cultural Affairs, Protocol, School Education, Women & Child Development.

6. Ranjit Prataprao Kamble: Water Supply & Sanitation, Food & Civil Supplies, Consumer Protection, Tourism and Public Works.

7. Bhaskar Bhaurao Jadhav: Urban Development, Forests, Ports, Khar Lands, Parliamentary Affairs, Sports & Youth Welfare, Ex-Servicemen's Welfare and Law & Judiciary

8. Prakash Sundarrao Solanke: Revenue, Rehabilitation & Relief Work, Earthquake Rehabilitation, Co-operation, Marketing and Textiles

9. Sachin Mohan Ahir: Housing, Slum Improvement, Repairs & Reconstruction, Urban Land Ceiling, Industries, Mines, Social Justice, De-addiction Activities, Environment, Welfare of Nomadic, De-notified Tribes and Other Backward Classes.

10. Gulabrao Baburao Deokar: Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Fisheries, Water Conservation, Employment Guarantee Scheme, Employment & Self-Employment and Transport.
