The birds that fly to the backyards of the villagers are considered harbingers of luck and that is why the villagers are so keen to protect them vehemently. The villagers also collect the excreta of the birds in the summer which is used to fertilize their fields. If anyone tries to disturb the birds or distort their nets, they are publicly humiliated by the villagers. Those often end up in shaving their heads, or compelled to make a public procession on a donkey.
