IPL 5 2012 Indian Premier League has been lead to a changed schedule of IPL tournament format which encompasses 74 total matches and new playoff format system in the place of the previous knockout stage. The total74 matches in IPL 2012 include 70 league matches and four playoff matches. As per IPL 2012 schedule season 5 total 10 teams are divided into two groups with 5 teams in each. But teams will be ranked altogether in one table not in 2 tables as in two groups like ICC schedule. These changes was due to the addition of two new teams which would have extended 94 total matches if retain the current home and away format. All IPL teams would play total 14 league games in which seven home and seven home away matches as in earlier seasons. At first each team will play both home and home away league matches against the other four teams in the same group. So each team play total eight matches in the same group (8 matches). More over each team will play against once either home or home away against the four teams in the opposite group (4 matches). Remaining 2 matches out of 14 will play twice against the remaining team in the opposite group in home and home away. Playoff schedule in this IPL season 5 is quite new. Four top ranked teams will be qualified from the league phase matches. The teams that got first rank and second rank in the league table will play the first playoff. This is exactly the first semi-final. We can call it Game A in IPL schedule. The third ranked team will play against fourth ranked team to win for final berth. This is Game B which is considered as a quarter-final. We can call it Game B. The loser of first playoff Game A will get 1 more chance to become finalist. Game A loser will play against winner of Game B in second semi final match Game C.
