Introduction of Masani Amman Temple


Arulmigu Masani Amman Temple is also called as Anaimalai Masani Amman temple. The temple is situated at Anaimalai in Coimbatore District of Tamilnadu and was the famous Pilgrim centre in Coimbatore. Masani Amman Idol looks in a lying posture measuring 15 feet from head to foot. The image of Masani Amman is painted with beautiful colours. The Idol has four hands, two placed on the ground, two hands raised above. The left hands hold a Skull and Snake and other two hands holding Drum and Trident. The temple was a famous tourist centre in Coimbatore District.

History of Masani Amman Temple


"Naanan" was the King ruled a place Anaimalai near Pollachi. He treated their people very badly. During his region, he had owned a very big mango trees in his farm. These tree was near on the riverside of Aaliyar and it was special tree for him. So he didn't allow anyone to touch the tree itself.

One day, the gang of girls went to take bath in the Aaliyar river. At time one girl noticed a mango floating on the river and ate fruit, which belongs to Naanan's tree. The guards informed the King about the Girl incident. The king got angered and sentenced his workers to kill that girl. Her father felt sad and ready to give many elephants and golds equal to his daughter. But King refused and killed her.

After some days, the peoples in the village formed a statue for that girl using sand in graveyard for remembrance. The statue worshipped as "Masani". Later the anger of that Girl showns to kill the king in the battle field and destroyed the mango tree by King Kozhinkhosargal.
There was another Story for Masani Amman temple. One day Sage Viswamitrar wanted to perform penance in Mountains of Kadaganachi. But mountains wer haunted by the demons. So he requested the King Dasaratha to send Lord Rama and Lakshmana along with him. It is believed that Rama and Lakshmana made an Idol for Lord Parvathi and prayed to bless them to kill demon.

Lord Parvathi appeared for them and requested them to destroy her Idol after killed the demon. But Lord Rama refused to destroy the Idol and to remain by save the people of that place. So she became Masani Amman in that Place.

Masani Amman


Goddess Masani Amman is a powerful Amman and she is different from other God Idols. Masani Amman derived from "Mayana Sayani" which means one who sleeps in the graveyard. The other Goddess of Justice in the serpent form called as "Neethi Kal" (Stone of Justice) and Lord Maha Muniappan were very famous in temple.

Devotees also expected that Goddess will respond their prayer within 3 weeks. The speciality of the Goddess in temple was those who people lose in their business, people hurted by enemies, women or men who lost their belongings, physical ills of people, court of justice by suffering of men and women will grind Red Chillies in stone grinder of the temple and apply the chilly paste on Neethi Kal. It is believed that the people get relieves from their enemies, lost property and became profitable.

Every Tuesday and Friday, special Poojas for Amman by many devotees and also Abishega Poojas offered in Karthigai, Ammavasai, Pournami, Vaigasi Visakam, Aadi peruku, Aadi Pooram, Tamil new year, Vinayagar Chaturthi, Deepavali, Deepam, Margazhi Pooja and Navarathiri. Agni Gundam Festival is very famous. So everyone ince visits Pollachi, don't miss to worship Masani Amman.
