There are only few Hill stations in Tamilnadu when compared to other northern states of India. These hill stations in Tamilnadu mainly served as tourist spot during summer times or forest area to enhance biodiversity and wild life protection. There are only 11 major hill stations which are popular in Tamilnadu. All hill station has their own benefits. Every hill station has waterfalls, rivers, gardens, wild life and many attractions with it. Hill stations in Tamilnadu belongs to both Eastern ghats and Western ghats. Coonoor hill station
Coonoor is located in Nilgiris district of Tamilnadu. It was the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris hills. It is 1800 meter above the sea level. This is a top rated tourist spot in Tamilnadu where huge number of people visit this place during their summer vacation. This hill station is bounded with lots of attraction such as Sim's Park, Pomological Station, Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint, Lamb's Rock, Droog, Law's Falls and Katary Falls. Javadi Hills is located in in Vellore District of Tamilnadu. Javadi hills is one of the largest hill station of eastern ghats. The altitude of this hill station is above 4000 meters. Javadi hills has Cheyyar and Agaram rivers in it. There are many tourist spots available surrounding this hills. The main attraction here are Beemanmadavu waterfalls and Kavalur Observatory (VBO). Kodaikanal is the most visited hill station of Tamilnadu. It is named as Princess of Hill stations in Tamilnadu. This hill station is cooler than other hill stations of Tamilnadu. It is 2100 meter above the sea level. This hills is surrounded by rich bio-diversity and it is less polluted hill station. Lots and lots of sightseeing places are available in Kodaikanal. The tourist spot available in Kodaikanal are Kodaikanal Lake, Bryant Park, Coaker's Walk, Bear Shola Falls, Green Valley View, Suicide Point, Pine forests, Shembaganur Museum of Natural History, Kodaikanal Solar Observatory, Pillar Rocks, Guna caves, Silver Cascade, Dolphin's Nose and Kurinji Andavar Murugan temple. These is the which have lots of attraction than any other hill station. This is top rated place with medium budget that attracts many tourist during summer season. You can experience good season in the month of April to July. It is so cool during period of December. This hill station has well connected transport facilities. The maximum temperature experienced is 18 degree celcius and minimum temperature experienced is 9 degree celcius. This hill station touches 9 degree celcius during December month.

Ooty which is also well known as Udagamandalam attracts more tourist every year. This hill station is the coolest hill station in Tamilnadu. Ooty has many lakes in it. This hill station is situated at an altitude of 2,286 meters above sea level. Ooty is surrounded by high scenic view that attracts movie makers. Many films has been taken in this hill station due to its beauty. Many tourist spots are available in Udagamandalam. Places that attracts tourists are Doddabetta Peak (highest peak with altitude 2,623 m), Tea plantations, Ketti Valley, Pykara Lake Boat House, Pykara Falls, Pine forest, Wenlock Downs, Kamraj Sagar Lake, Mudumalai National Park, Mukurthi National Park, Needle hill viewpoint, Parsons Valley Reservoir, Emerald Lake, Avalanche Lake, Porthimund Lake and Upper Bhavani Lake. Ooty concers more about the eco-system, so the plastics were banned. This hill station has well connected transport facilities. The maximum temperature experienced is 24 degree celcius and minimum temperature experienced is -2 degree celcius. This hill station touches -2 degree celcius very rarely but it is the lowest recorded temperature.

Valparai Hills
Valparai is hill station located in Coimbatore district of Tamilnadu. The altitude of this hill is 3500 feet above the sea level. This is hill located in Western ghats. This is emerging as a tourist spot with some attractions in Valparai hill station. Attractions available in this hill station are Azhiyar Park, Azhiyar Dam, Monkey Falls, Sholayar dam, Chinnakallar, Nirar dam and Siddashram. The climate is pleasant for the whole year. It is rainy during the period of June to October. This hill station has well connected transport facilities. The maximum temperature experienced is 28 degree celcius and minimum temperature experienced is 16 degree celcius. This hill station touches 16 degree celcius at the month of July to December.Meghamalai Hills
Meghamalai is located at Theni district of Tamilnadu. Meghamalai belongs to Western Ghats. This hill station is known for it flora and fauna. It is expected that Meghamalai Wildlife Santuary is going to establish soon. This hills has evergreen forest at the top. The animal species found in Meghamalai are tiger, leopard, Nilgiri tahr, gaur,spotted deer, barking deer, Sambar deer, wild boar, porcupine, Nilgiri langur, lion-tailed macaque,common langur, bonnet macaque, sloth bear, Grey Junglefowl, Smooth-coated Otter and flying squirrel. This hill is not favorable for tourist to visit. Animal lovers can visit this place. There are some place for the tourist to visit are Manalar dam, Vellimalai, Meghamalai Falls, Cumbum Valley, Suruli falls and Kumili falls. There are not much transport facility available to this hill. The maximum temperature experienced is 27 degree celcius and minimum temperature experienced is 16 degree celcius. This hill station touches 16 degree celcius at the month of July to December. The weather condition here is similar to Kodaikanal. Yelagiri Hills
Yelagiri is located in Vellore district of Tamilnadu. Altitude of this hill is 1410 meter above the sea level. This has rich plantations such as orchards, rose-gardens, and green valleys. It is developing tourist hill station. Trekking is suitable in this hill and attracts lots of trekkers. This place is suited for sport adventure such as paragliding and rock climbing. This is the best hill for such sports activity in Tamilnadu. Swamimalai Hill is the highest point of Yelagiri hill whose height is 4,338 ft. Trekkers love to visit Swamimalai as it provides thick forest which is suitable for trekking. Attractions in Yelagiri available are Punganoor Artificial Lake-cum-Park, Jalagamparai Waterfalls, Swami Malai Hills, Telescope observatory, YMCA Camp Centre. There are not much transport facility available to this hill. The maximum temperature experienced is 30 degree celcius and minimum temperature experienced is 14 degree celcius. One can experience good season in the month of January, February, November and December.

Yercaud is now most attracted tourist spot of Tamilnadu. It is popularly called as Jewel of Tamilnadu. Yercaud hill is filled which flora and fauna as well many tourist spots. The attraction available in Yercaud are Yercaud Lake, Lady's Seat, The Servaroyan Temple, Bear's Cave, Green House, The Grange, Pagoda Point, Silk Farm and Rose Garden, Fairholme Bungalow and Heaven's Ledge. There are about 3000 tress and 1800 shrubs grown in Orchidarium which is maintained by Botanical Survey of India. The wild animals in Yercaud are bison, deer, ant-eater, rabbits, hares, foxes, mongoose, squirrels, partridges, snakes, bulbuls, kites, sparrows,swallows and paradise flycatchers. Yercaud as well connected transport facility. The maximum temperature experienced is 31 degree celcius and minimum temperature experienced is -9 degree celcius.

Doddabetta is the highest hill station of Nilgiris hill. It is 9 Km away from the Ooty hill station. The attraction available in Doddabetta is Telescope House which is maintained by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation. The climatic condition are same as that of Ooty with slight cooler than Ooty. Every visitors of Ooty visit Doddabetta too. Transport facilities such are vans and jeep are available regularly. Kolli Hills
Kolli Hills is located in Namakkal district of India. The height of this hill is 1300 meter above the sea level. This hill belongs to eastern ghats. Kolli hills have many tourist spots to visit. The tourist spot in Kolli hills are Seekuparai, Selur Nadu, Agaya Gangai and Arapaleeswarar temple. Plantation such as coffee, tea, jackfruit, pineapple, black pepper and other spices are grown here. To maintain the eco-system Government of Tamilnadu runs three reserved forest namely Ariyur Solai, Kundur Nadu and Pulianjolai.The climatic condition is moderate. The maximum temperature experienced is 31 degree celcius and minimum temperature experienced is 19 degree celcius.
