The muthukumaran committee, comprising eminent educational experts of Tamilnadu, which was constituted for studying various aspects over the implementation of uniform education system in Tamilnadu. After assessing all possible factors for the improvement of education system in Tamilnadu the committee submitted its report to then DMK government during 2007. The DMK government analyzed the possibility for the implementation procedure after making necessary amendment in the recommendation in the committee report. Finally , the samacheer kalvi thittam got ready for the implementation throughout in the State of Tamilnadu.

DMK government planned to implement the samacheer kalvi thittam during its last phase of ruling during 2010-2011. Soon after the announcement of Samacheer kalvi large sections of people mainly from the urban area opposed the uniform education citing the reason for the need of quality education which can only be given by the private schools. On the contrary, the people from village shown their happiness towards the implementation of samacheer kalvi. In the meantime, DMK lost its power in the assembly election following which the rival AIADMK came to power. Soon after sworn-in ceremony, as a first move the new government opposed the uniform samacheer kalvi thittam. The present government of Tamil Nadu (AIADMK) filed a case against the samacheer kalvi thittam with the request to issue a stay order till next session. The government also criticized then DMK government for making new syllabus of education in favor of the party. Following this, large number people filed their petition against the samacheer kalvi thittam.

Single autonomous board for the secondary education in Tamilnadu


The Muthukumaran committee recommended for a single autonomous board for Tamilnadu. At present there are four different boards like matriculation, oriental, state board and Anglo-Indian. The committee reported that nowadays, the private school education is completely commercialized forgetting the social need. All school committee mind only on their revenue forgetting the terms and condition for getting approval from Tamilnadu government. The multiple board system will enhance the commercialization. So the committee recommended for a single autonomous board in Tamilnadu.

Differences among the students of Rural and Urban Children


On many occasion it was noticed few educational body always trying to outline the children coming from rural area. They think that the children from rural area cannot pay the money as they are demanding. The rote learning makes no sense in the scope of learning. In the present system a child can score cent percentage marks in the examination without knowing the concept of learning. What is the use of such learning? will it support for them in making their career. We cannot identify the skill of the child he or she have only we inject what we have and try to recover what we want not bothering about the talent of the child. Hence, the committee opposed the way of rote learning and suggested an alternative solution as continuous and comprehensive evaluation.

Parents are generally forcing and physically torturing the children to study-study-and study for getting good marks. Let us hope the recommendations of muthukumaran committee may bring a favorable change in the present system of Tamilnadu education system. It is a new thinking in a new dimension in the history of Tamilnadu education. No doubt the samacheer kalvi thittam will bring an expected change over cognitive, affective and psycho motor domain of Education. Opposing is easier than designing, so the samacheer thittam is not against anyone or favoring any political party but in is in the interest of CHILDREN OF TAMIL NADU.
