Jallikattu in Tamilnadu


Jallikattu is also known as Eruthazhuvuthal, Manju Virattu, Bull Tamming. It is conducted in Tamilnadu villages particularly in Alanganallur and Palamedu of Madurai district. This will be conducted every year during Mattu Pongal festival (January 16). For this Pongal 1060 bulls and 1240 bull fighters have been registered to participate in Jallikattu.

Schedule- Jallikattu will be conducted at Palamedu on January 15. Alanganallur Jallikattu is scheduled on January 16. Bull Tamming will start at morning 9AM and completes at 3PM. Madurai District Collector Ansul Mishra examined the security at Jallikattu spots. He then accepted the request to conduct bull taming. Police security has been increased. Police security will be given by 20 DSP, 60 inspector and 1200 constables.

Registration- In Palamedu more than 500 bulls and 640 bull fighters are registered. In Alanganallur 560 bulls and 600 bull fighters are registered. All the bulls participated in this sports will be checked by Animal Welfare Board. Alcohol test will be detected by using PH paper. Ambulance will be present in this Jallikattu event for safety.
