Why case filed against Sterlite Industries Tuticorin?


Sterlite Industires is warned several time for causing pollution in Tuticorin district. Case has been filed against Sterlite Industires at Supreme Court for emitting hazardous gas. Here I have give the case details of Sterlite Industries.

Sterlite Industries is located at Tuticorin, Tamli Nadu. Complaints were made against this industry for causing air pollution as well as sea pollution. Chennai high court has declared a statement to close this industry on Sepetember 28 2010. Then Sterlite Industries made an appeal at Supreme Court. Supreme Court decided moratorium on plant closing. Then this case was postponed to November 6.

To speed the closing process of Sterlite Industries, Tamil Nadu pollution control board send some privilege paper regarding the pollution emitted by Sterlite industries to Supreme Court. They have added that on March 23 2013 pollution gas leakage is recorded.

Supreme court decision on Sterlite Industries
Supreme court will publish their final verdict on April 2 (Today). Judges of Supreme Court replied to media as: "We have done a deep research about this industry and already made our decision. We will convey our verdict on April 2. A pollution control board has authorization to close industries which doesn't obey rules."

On April 2:
A final verdict is provided by Supreme Court that Sterlite can run as usual. They also fined Rs.100 crore for not obeying the rules and causing pollution. It seems that this industries has took steps to control the pollution.

Vaiko's role
Well know politician Vaiko filed case against Sterlite Industries. Vaiko is the secretary of MDMK political party. He explained to the Supreme Court judges about the poisonous gas release, Protests and bandh. After the SC has declared that Sterlite industries can function as usual, Vaiko said to media that he will book complaint again against Sterlite industries.
