In sanskrit the term Pavana means wind; Muktha means relief; Asana means posture. Pavanamuktha asana means wind relieving posture. Preparation Pose for Tamil traditional Pavanamuktha Yoga Asana
This is the Preparation for Tamil Traditional Pavanamuktha Yoga Asana.
Lie flat on the floor your face facing the ceiling.
Take two to three deep breaths.
Keep both legs together so that your ankle knees touch each other.
Now bend the legs at knee and place your heels close to your buttocks.
Hold the right knee with your right hand.
Take two breaths; Inhale and while start to Exhale slowly pull the knee towards your stomach and complete the Exhalation.
Hold in this position for 6 normal breaths.
Then with Inhalation slowly push the knee to the initial position.
Now repeat the same to the left knee.
Take two to three breaths.
Catch the right knee with your right hand and left knee with your left hand.
Take two breaths; Inhale and while start to Exhale slowly pull both the knees towards your stomach and complete the Exhalation.
Hold in this position for 6 normal breaths.
Then with Inhalation slowly push the knees to the initial position.

Try to bring your knee close to your stomach without strain which is very important. If you feel hard to get your knee close to your stomach, stop at that position where you feel comfortable. Regular practice you will achieve that position.

Complete Tamil Traditional Pavanamuktha Yoga Asana.
Now extend both legs.
Relax. Take 6 deep breaths.
Now, bend the right leg at the knee and catch the knee or shin, whichever is comfortable, with both of your hands and your left leg should be straight on the floor, which is very important.
Inhale and while start to Exhale slowly pull the knee close towards your stomach and complete the Exhalation.
Hold this position.
Now Inhale and while Exhalation rise your head try to touch your right knee with your head or nose tip.
If not possible bring your head close to your right knee.
Hold this position for 6 normal breath initially and gradually increase it up to 18 breaths.
Then with Inhalation down your head on the floor.
Release your grip on the knee and extend the right leg on the floor.
Repeat the same with your left knee.
After completing with Left knee, take two to three deep breath.
Now, bend both legs at knees and catch them with both hands at knees or at shin whichever is possible and comfortable..
Inhale and while start to Exhale slowly pull the knees close towards your stomach and complete the Exhalation.
Hold this position.
Now Inhale and while Exhalation rise your head try to touch your knees with your head or nose tip. If not possible bring your head close to your knees.
Hold this position for 6 normal breath initially and gradually increase it up to 18 breaths.
This is the complete Tamil Traditional Pavanamuktha Yoga Asana.
Then with Inhalation down your head on the floor.
Release your grip on the knees and extend the legs on the floor.
Relax in Savasana.
