Ingredients needed for Tamil nadu Rava Khichadi recipe

Rava(white): 2 cups
Water: 4 to 5 cups
Mustard seeds: 1⁄2 tsp
Chana dal: 1⁄2 tsp
Urad dal: 1⁄2 tsp
Turmeric powder: 1⁄2 tsp
Salt as required
Onion: 2 medium
Tomato: 2 medium
Carrot: 1
Green peas: 1 small bowl
Curry leaves
Cashew nuts if desired.
Oil and ghee

How to make rava kichadi in Tamil style?

Dry roast rava on low flame and keep it aside. Finely chop onion and tomato. Slit green chillies. Make small pieces of carrot. Heat oil in pan and add mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal, green chilli and cashew nuts.
Fry all the ingredients on low flame till both the dals are golden brown in colour. Now add chopped onion and fry to make them soft and transparent. Add chopped tomatoes and try till they become soft and pulpy.

Add salt as per your requirement and taste. Now it's time to add other vegetables in the pan and fry them for two minutes. Add water in the mixture and increase the flame. Let the mixture boil for few minutes.

When the water starts boiling, reduce the flame add roasted rava gradually in the pan. Carefully mix rava in the water and avoid making lumps while mixing. Sometimes you may need more water to cook the rava completely. While cooking, it is keep hot water ready and add it if necessary.

Cook the khichadi on low flame to cook rava and other vegetables completely. It may take 5 to 7 minutes to make the khichadi ready. When your rava khichadi is completely ready add 2 to 3 tsp of pure ghee in the last and mix it.
