Sri Paramahansa Yoganadaji is a spiritual guru who popularized kriya yoga to the western world and also founded yogoda satsang society. Sri Paramahansa Yoganadaji was sent west by his Guru Sri Yuteshwarji who taught kriya yoga to him. It was told that Sri Babaji taught kriya yoga to Sri Lahari Mahasayaji and Sri Lahari Mahasayaji taught to Sri Yuteshwarji. Chennai Sri Paramahamsa Yoganandaji meditation hall rules
All are welcomed to meditate.There are some procedures to be followed in the Sri Paramahamsa Yoganda Hall. Use the meditation mats which will be kept besides wall. While finishing meditation session please place the mats were it was, not only yours, if you find others too. You should switch off your phone before entering meditating hall. If you cannot sit on the floor for long time you can sit on the chair. If you want to live in the middle of the meditation session do so while in the time of chanting. If you have cold or cough please meditate in home until it gets cured. Avoid making sounds or talking to your friends in the hall. If you arrive late please join them without creating any distractions to the person who were meditating.
Meditation procedure in Chennai yogoda satsanga society
Procedure followed in Chennai yogoda satsanga society is as follows. A in charge person starts the process of meditation. All are made to stand. First starts with enerzing exercises from toe to head. This exercise is devised by Sri Paramahansa Yoganadaji himself. Then all should pray to God. Next Guru Salutations will be done. Getting blessings from the Guru follows before starting meditation. All are made to sit.
How to start meditation
If you are a beginner, close your eyes and focus on the point between eyebrows. If you feel uncomfortable with this method, then silently call on God in the language of heart and follow the instructions given by the instructor. Meditation starts with bhajan along melodious harmonium music. Then follows readings from Sri Paramahansa Yoganandaji's speech. Then meditation for forty five minutes. Lights put off. Environment is very quiet. This kind of quietness probably cannot be found in our home for some of us. For those this is a heaven for meditation. After forty five minutes harmonium music starts as if waking us from the sleep. Again chanting of Lord Krishna starts. Then bhajan starts. Then follows community prayer. You can give the names of the person to whom you want to pray. All are made to stand.
How to end meditation
Again prayer. Then guru salutations. Then universal healing prayer. In this part one kind of action is followed which was devised by Sri Guru Paramahansa Yoganandaji. initially you follow what action is performed by person who conduct meditation session until you get used to it. Then rose aarti and then deepa aarti for all guru's pictures. Then getting blessings. Finally everyone goes to the pictures of guru's and place flowers which were already kept. There is a small bamboo basket, if you wish to contribute money, you put as you wish and it is not compulsory. In the entrance Prasadam will be distributed. You can also find a water pot nearby. This how the meditation procedure ends.
