Sumitra Mukherjee was a Bengali film actress. She has acted in more than 500 Bengali movies.
Born in 1949, Sumitra Mukherjee- also known as hasi (smile) was famous for her natural acting and beautiful smiling face. Her first film Ajker Nayak was released in 1972. She has acted in so many films, more than 500. It seems that her selection of movies were not perfect. She has acted in many B-grades , C-grades Bengali movies.
In her early days, Bengali film actors like Ranjit Mallick, Dipankar Dey were casted against her. Legeng Uttam Kumar acted many films opposite Sumitra Mukherjee. Few of her famous Bangla movies are
Bikele Bhorer Phul, Basanta Bilap, Debi Chowdhurani, Devdas, Sesh Rakha, Mem Saheb, Amritakumbher Sandhane, Ogo Badhu Sundari.
Her married life was not a happy one. She died at an early age of 54 on May 21, 2003 and is survived by 2 sons.
