Brief history and profile of Masterda Surya Sen
Surya Sen – known as Masterda, a prominent freedom fighter was born on March 22, 1894 in Chittagong district of present Bangladesh. Initially he was a follower of Mahatma Gandhi and joined the non co-operative movement of 1919. Ultimately he felt that non-violence may nor yield result so he took the path of violence.
He was the master mind behind the raid the armoury of police forces in Chittagong, a province that was a part of British India.
After the raid on April 18, 1930, he reached the Jalalabad hills along with his followers and after the gun battle with the British troops on April 22, he escaped from there. Police was looking for Masterda Surya Sen.
Surya Sen was moving from one place to another, took different professions to hide himself. Surya Sen arrived West Bengal and took selter in Netra Sen's house. Netra Sen betrayed Masterda Surya Sen. He passed the information of Surya Sen to British Government.
