Welcome New Year 2011with great expectations, lots of hope and dream. Year 2011, a new year with new decade is entering in our life. Let’s have a look on the past year. Were we secured? What West Bengal has achieved and what she has lost. Main events occurred in West Bengal during 2010.
2010 can not be stated as a productive year for West Bengal. Let's hope with the start of a new year West Bengal will be again on the right track. Let's hope that with the New Year there would be new hopes, positive activities among the people of Bengal. We have lost a lot in the outgoing year 2010. Violence, Political murder, maoist activities, impatience in student politics caused unrest situation in the state. Political culture has changed in Bengal. Political clashes were every where of the state. Huge loss of life, crops, properties have crippled Bengal. Now Bengal is under the clutch of political atrocities. People of Bengal were not sufficiently secured in the outgoing year. Nature was also against us. We have witnessed farmer suicideduring draught. Maoist activities in Bengal has increased during the year 2010. News of murder comes from different maoist infested areas daily. Some areas of Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia districts are under the control of Maoists. This is really a threat for civilized life of Bengal.
On February 15 Maoists attack on Silda camp, an army camp in West Bengal killing 24 jawans. Even the life of jawans are not secured here.
How secured were Train journey
On May 28 – The Gyaneshwari Train Accident in West Midnapore of West Bengal. This matter is still under investigation of CBI.
On July 19 – Sainthia train accidentTwo rails collide at Sainthia in the Birbhum district of West Bengal with huge loss of lives.

On January 3, East Bengal beat Lajong and won their sixth Federation Cup title.
On January 14, the original Coca Cola FIFA World Cup trophy came to Kolkata. Germany' soccer legend Lothar Matthaeus reached Kolkata on the next day and the FIFA World Cup trophy was kept in the state for three days. It was kept in Salt Lake stadium for public display.
On August 9, West Bengal football team beat Punjab to lift the Santosh Trophy for record 30th times. Bengal had to wait for long 11 years for the 30th title.
Archers Dola Banerjee and Rahul Banerjee secured gold medals at the Commonwealth Games 2010

The year did not start with a new year's gift. Former chief Minister of West Bengal, Jyoti Basu was hospitalized on the very first day of the New Year. After a prolonged fight with death he died on 17 January.
Noted Bengali theatre personality Kumar Roy died on 28 February. He was 84. Kumar Roy was associated with popular Bengali theatre group Bohurupee and was the president of Bengali theatre academy.
Tapen Chatterjee, Gupi of Satyajit Ray's Gupi Gayen Bagha Bayen and Hirak Rajar Deshe died on 24 May at the age of 72.
Another ex- Chief Minister of Bengal, Siddhartha Shankar Ray died on 6 November. He was 90.Current Political events in West Bengal
January 24, M.K.Narayanan became the governor of West Bengal. He took over from Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
June 2: Trinamool Congress won 141 ward city municipal corporation polls and won the majority. This was a major blow to Left Front government at West Bengal.
