Political eventful week of West Bengal – law and order assessment from different angles
West Bengal is passing through political critical days for last few months. Since the Netai massacre, the situation has aggravated. Governor of West Bengal, CM of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, Election Commission of India, intellectuals of Bengal, Trinamool Congressed, High Court of West Bengal all are engaged in this issue, law and order situation of West Bengal.
Law and order situation of West Bengal is at alarming stage. Political violence and murder is daily news in West Bengal. All these are against Bengal's culture. The social harmony among people specially in villages is no more. Now the time has come when all the political parties should think about it. The administration should act in proper direction. Union Home Minister, Election Commission, Governor have express their concern about the law and order situation of West Bengal. Intellectuals have raised their voice against present law and order situation
The pro-change intellectuals of West Bengal visited Netai after the incidence of murder took place. They talked with the villagers and ultimately they met President of India Mrs. Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on January 17, 2011 and Home Minister P. Chidambaram on January 18, 2011. The 8 members of the team expressed their views about the law and order situation of West Bengal, political violence of the state. They appealed to all of them to take necessary actions required to restore peaceful environment in West Bengal. The team members requested all of them for early polls in the state. West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee met union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Prime Minister on January 19 to discuss about many state issues. Earlier Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram to send a letter asking him to meet him in Delhi regarding present law and order situation of the state. Today Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has agreed that there are armed camps in West Bengal and he won't allow this situation to continue. According to him, there is a Trinamul-Maoist nexus in the stat. Kolkata High court observing the law and order situation of the state
Today, January 19 2011 The Kolkata High Court has refused to order a CBI probe into the Netai killing and said they would keep watch on the proceedings of the CID investigation and directed the state CID to continue to probe the matter.
Kolkata High Court has directed the Home Secretary of West Bengal to file a report on the progress of CID investigation on 4rth February and after that the case will be again taken on hearing.
The Kolkata High court directed the compensation package of Rs two lakh each for the kin of those died at Netai. Seriously injured would get Rs one lakh and each the injured would get Rs 50,000. Election Commission team to assess the law and order situation of West Bengal
Six member special Election Commission team, led by Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar Sudhir Kumar Rakesh, reached the state to oversee the law and order situation of the state before the assembly election. They have visited the areas where recent political violence took place. They have visited many areas of Bankura, Burdwan, Purulia, Midnapur, North 24 paraganas, Birbhum including Sashan, Mangolkote, Nanur etc.
They are directly talking with the villagers and listening to their complaints. Governor himself visited the violence torn areas to assess law and order situation there
Governor of West Bengal today visited Netai village of Lalgarh and Jhaldah of Purulia district to assess the law and order situation of the areas. He interacted with the villagers directly. People expressed their hopeless situation. All they need now is safety of life. Governor will inform state government and central government about his assessment.
