Bengal club- an association of Bengali community in Mumbai


The oldest Bengali association in Mumbai is Bengal Club. This club is located at famous Shivaji Park at Dadar.

This club was inaugurated in 1922 in the living room of late Sati Ranjan Ghosh. At that time eminent Bengalis started settle in Mumbai. They need a Bengali association where Bengali cultural activities would be performed. Gradually this association was shifted to the ground floor of Mawawala Building. Ultimately the Bengali community club building shifted to Shivaji Park. Here the club has arrangement for indoor games in its own building, a library with huge collection of Bengali books. Till today Durga Puja in Mumbai means the puja of Bengali association at Shivaji Park. Bengal club has a Kali Temple near the Ganesh temple at Shivaji Park.

Social activities of Bengal club



Bengal Club is engaged with lot of social activities. Members of the club and local residents get help from such activities. In case of any trouble, Bengali families from other states while in Mumbai seeks help from this club. Bengal Club organizes different camps on regular basis to help its members and local people. These camps are Diabetic Camp, Blood donations camp, Eye Check-up camp, General Health check –up camp and many more.

Spiritual activities of Bengal club



All the major Bengali pujas like Durga Puja, Kali puja, Laxmi puja, Saraswati puja are performed with great enthusiasm in this Bengali association under the banner of Bangal club. Durga puja of Bengal club is considered as the most famous among the other Durga pujas in Mumbai. Bengalis and non-Bengalis of Mumbai gather here during the puja days. During all the four days of Durga puja, Bengal club arranges for 'Bhog' in the day time. People from surrounding areas come and take the 'Bhog' which is a complete lunch. Actually in all Durga pujas of Mumbai, this type of 'Bhog' is arranged for all, members and non-members.
