The story of Iti Mrinalini Bengali Film is quite unique and attractive. The film opens up with the aged Mrinalini, characterized by Aparna Sen, writing a suicide note. As an actress, the first ever thing Mrinalini had to learn was all about timing. She had to know the perfect moment about making and entrance or an exit on the stage. If life is considered a stage, as Shakespeare had done in As You Like It, she had no choice on her entrance. Nevertheless, she decides to manipulate her exit at her will.
Nevertheless, right before she is about to take the pills for a final sleep, she turns her mind to destroying all the memorabilia – all her letters, photographs, newspaper cuttings, and the stuff – so that they do not reach the press. She was victimized by excessive media attention all through her life, at least at her death she wants to liberate herself from that. Now when she opens up her past relics, memories start cascading. We are taken to the past in a flashback, with Konkona Sen Sharma portraying the youth of Mrinalini.
While the past of Mrinalini is relived, the night gradually dawns. An ajaan is heard from the distance and light creeps into the room. Mrinalini recovers from her death urge. Her German Shepherd enters the room and rubs its head on her, asking her to take it out. Mrinalini smiles and tears up her suicide note, and prepares for a walk with the dog.
A new day starts for her, with a new life awaiting ahead.
