Other industries also developed due to these two major industries of Durgapur. The industries are operated by the SAIL (Steel Authority if India lmtd). In the DSP(Durgapur Steel Plant) there are about 30000 employees and it produces one million tonnes pig iron annually. These is the one and only steel plant in India producing the railway wheels so this is one more reason for its popularity. The ASP(Alloy steel Plant) is a special steel plant with about 7000 employees. The capacity of this industry is 0.3 million tonnes per year and its main raw materials are the ferrous scraps from the junked cars.
