Asansol is an important railway station. It is an important junction and stop for the train going to Delhi from Howrah. Most of the trains stop here. The distance of Howrah from Asansol is about 200km and railways are an important source of transportation for Asansol. Many trains leave Asansol for Howrah but you should book or reserve your seats before boarding the train as usually the trains remain crowded and the behavior of the daily passengers is also not good.Roadway link
Asansol is straight on the Grand Trunk road and therefore travelling from Asansol or to Asansol is straight and without any problems finding the way. The distance of Asansol from Kolkata is about 200km and while going to Asansol you can find many snack shops on way specially in Shaktigarh and Panagarh as a break of your journey. There are Volvo air conditioned bus services for Asansol which provide a easy, comfortable and luxurious way of travelling to and from Asansol. The cost is obviously higher than the state air conditioned buses but in the state buses you could not find the same level of comfort.Airports near Asansol
Kolkata is the most efficient airport for the people travelling to Asansol from outer states. From there one can use the roadways or railways to get to Asansol. 1.Nehru park -
It is present on the Bank of river Damodar in Burnpur and it is a very nice place to visit for children and a good for time pass.
2.Churulia -
This place is 17km away from Asansol city. Here the famous Bengali poet Kazi Nazarul Islam was born and there is a museum with the cultural values of the poet and it is a good place to visit.
3.Maithon Damn -
This is one of the most beautiful place in West Bengal to visit. This is a great picnic spot in West Bengal and it is about 20km from The city of Asansol. Travelling to this place is very easy by the Asansol bypass.
4.Kalyaneswari Temple -
This place is also located near the Maithon Damn and it is also near about 20km from Asansol. The route of travelling to the place is same as the Maithon damn. It is the temple for the Lady of fulfilment or the barren womans pray there for child.
5.Panchet Damn -
This place is 17km from the Asansol city. It is also a picnic spot but not so beautiful like the Maithon damn.
6.Joy Chandi Pahar -
It is a region of rock climbing as well as a popular picnic spot. Rock climbing training is given here. It is approximately 30km from Asansol and a railway station is also there in that place from which trains to and from Asansol can be boarded.
7.Satabdi park -
Satabdi park is a nice place to spend your evenings and is located inside Asansol city only. There are many joyful rides for the children and boating is also there. This place is really enjoyable for the children.
8.Ghagar Buri Chandi temple -
This is a very famous and popular temple on the National Highway located near Asansol and it 3km approximately from Asansol. This place is very famous for its morning and evening 'Pujas' and attracts a large number of tourists.
