About Durgapur
Durgapur is one of the best and big industrial area among West Bengal. It reflects an real image of an industrialized India which is utilized its all strength and power to develop our country India. The steel city Durgapur is located in Burdwan district of West Bengal. The industrial city is situated on the Damodar river banks. The population of Durgapur is quite large i.e 2,50,000. It is located on a suitable place for its steel plant. The Ranigunj coal bearing field is just nearer the city Durgapur. So it is easy to access the raw materials for working in the Steel Plant. Although Durgapur is a big industrial area but it is founded in the late fifties. The chief minister of West Bengal at that time was Dr.Bidhan Chandra Roy has given the permission to put a largest unit steel plant. So a large steel plant was placed named Durgapur Steel Plant which is a unit of Steel Authority of India (SAIL). Now a days Durgapur is much developed and there are many plants and industries are placed.
