Burdwan newly Barddhaman is the 3rd largest district of Bengal as per its area.It is well known to all that cultivation and art is popular in this district.It is situated in the south central of Bengal at north 23 degree 53min latitude to 22 degree 56 min south latitude and in longitude 88 degree 25 min east to 88 degree 25 min west.

Rivers : In burdwan there are three main rivers. They are Bhagirathi-Hoogly(Ganga), Damodar and Ajay. Besides these there are some small rivers, they are Banka, Gangur-Behula, Kana, Khari and Kunur.
Weather: Generally warm and wet mousumi weather. Average annual rainfall is 1516 milimeter(as per 2010 statistics)
Soil: In this district mainly there are three types of soil. They are-1. Sedimentary soil 2. Lateritic soil and 3. Red and Yellow soil.
Forest area and trees: only 3.5 percent of the district is forest. Per head 0.005 hector.
Minerals : Coal is the main mineral of this district. Around Raniganj near about 200 coal mines are there. Fire clay also available here.
Cultivation and Irrigation : Total 4698 hector cultivation land here. Near about 72.9 percent are covered by irrigation .Main industries and communication in Burdwan District
Main industry: Durgapur steel plant, L&T cement factory, Hindustan fertilizer, Chittaranjan railway locomotives, Isco and Burnstandard.
