Bishnupur is always known as a separate musical gharana. Jadunath Bhattacharya, popularly known as Jadu Bhatta was a renowned maestro of Bishnupur gharana. He borne in the year 1840, and a resident of Kadakuli in Bishnupur town. His father Mr. Madhusudan Bhattacharya was an eminent vocalist as well as instrumentalist. In his early childhood he learnt sitar and mridanga as his ancestral property. Later he went to Ramshankar Bhattacharya and Ganganarayan Chattopadhaya to learn music. They were the court musicians of Bishnupur Rajas. He was the music teacher of Rabindranath Tagore. He received 'Ranganath' title from Rajas of Pnachcot, and 'Tanraj' from Maharaja of Tripura. In his early age he died. He was specially considered as a great Dhrupad artiste. He had written several songs.
