Floriculture of West Bengal

Today's flourishing industry in West Bengal is floriculture. It is having very high prospect over there. Now state produces 58000 ton of flower every year and floriculture is developed in more than 10000 acres. Ornamental plant is also booming.

1. Rose
2. Gerbera
3. Tuberose
4. Gladiolus
5. Carnation
6. Cockscomb

Our main flower producers are Kalimpong, Panskura, Ranaghat, Thakurnagar, Bagnan etc. Through excellent logistics system we are capturing export markets of Europe and Japan. Our main flower importers are Holland, Middle East, UK.

Government Initiative:

1. We have a floriculture park at Mungpoo in North Bengal, which provides the infrastructure to entrepreneurs. Cold storage facilities, grading or packaging room, tissue culture lab, and refrigerated vans are proposed.
2. Mega flower mart in Mullick ghat, Kolkata with flower preservation facilities.
3. Multi-storied flower market in Panskura.
4. Floriculture park at Jagulia near Haringhata.
