Short History of Malda
The history of Malda can be traced back to the beginning of the 18th century when there is an existence of Mauryan Empire. Malda city came into existence after the arrival of British troops in this area. Gaur
Gaur is located 12km south of Malda. It is considered as one of the most significant historical places of 14th and 15th century Bengal. The worth seeing places here are Bara Sona Mosque, Dakhil Darwajah, Lattan Mosque.
Pandua
Pandua is located 18km north of Malda. Adina Mosque, built by Sikander Shah in the year 1369 is a must see place in Pandua. It represents an impressive Muslim structural design. It is considered as one of the major mosques in India built over a Hindu temple and has nearly 378 small domes.
There are also some minor mosques which are also must see places in Pandua.
There is also a Malda Museum which has a vast collection of regional architectural and anthropological remains of Gaur and Pandua which are also a must see.
