History of Bengali new year - poila Baishak
Bengali new year starts at the time of Akbar.
At the time of Mughal dynasty the great emperor Akbar started "the Bengali new year (Poila Baishak)" .
On that time people pay their tax in a particular day on the basis of Higri calender and that Higri calender built on the basis of chandramas's rule.
But the farmer face so many obligations to pay their tax on that particular time. So they came to the king Akbar and urged him to change the date. King Akbar came in front to solve this problem; he directed to an astronomer Faithullah siraj. Faithulla built a new calender on the basis of Hindu's sun calender and start the Bengali new year on this day(this year 15th april).
After that on the eve of the new year people and farmers pay their tax to the register of king and on the new year king gave them sweet. So many cultural functions were held after that.
Later this particular day turns a great festival of Bengal. Not only Bengal it also celebrate in Kerala, Tamilnadu, Manipur, Orissa, Punjab, Nepal, Srilanka, Cambodia, Thailand. Most astonishing matter is that it also celebrate in USA, Australia, Sweden and obviously our neighbour country Bangladesh.
